Bud would have left with her but the moment he turned, Jason grabbed him around his ankles and took him down. Both men were rolling on the floor like a couple
of tomcats fighting over a waft of female. It was purely territorial. Their testosterone driven scuffle was drawing an audience now and it would have gone on
longer if the lights didn't go out. They were temporarily saved by the storm, but not for long. When the lights flickered on for a moment it was obvious
that one of the men was bleeding but it would be hard to tell which one as darkenss took over again.

Darcy's voice came loud and clear, pleading and yet commanding, cutting through the crash of bar stools and breaking glass like an alarm bell. "Bud,
let him go." She was vaguely aware of the redhead's disapproving stare and she guessed the woman had every right to think she was nothing but a
troublemaking bitch. 'But she doesn't know me, and she doesn't know the history between us...' Darcy thought, her heart breaking over
the humiliation she'd caused Bud. Of course, he was punishing Jason for it. He might want to, but Bud would never raise a hand to her. Jason Morgan
however, was a different matter.
Thinking, 'Oh God, I'm such a damn fool,' Darcy fell to her knees and laid a hand squarely on Bud's back, knowing he would recognize her touch and that it would stop him in his tracks. "Please don't do this, Bud," she said softly. "I deserve it, not him. I'm so sorry." |

Marie truly had no idea what she should do. She wanted to help Bud and yet she felt like an outsider intruding on something that she knew nothing about and
was none of her business. There was obviously some strong history here between Bud and the woman. Just the way she laid her hand on his back and said she was
sorry...She should get the hell out of here, raging storm or not. As much as she liked Bud he certainly wasn't a man looking for a woman for a
relationship. For a bit of diversion perhaps, but not to get to know her. Marie didn't want to be a man's diversion to get over another woman. She
was better than that.
Bolstered by her own thoughts she backed up toward the door. It was time to exit this whole situation. Bud wouldn't even remember her tomorrow and he certainly could take care of himself. She opened the door carefully and quietly. Except the door was pulled out of her hands by the strong winds. It slammed in loudly and strongly knocking her right off her feet to the floor. Followed by the howling sound and the the rain pouring in the open doorway. The bartender came running over to help her to her feet and it took all their strength to shut the door. She looked at him wryly. "I guess we're not in Kansas anymore? Or maybe we are." She glanced up and Bud was looking at her from the floor. Well, at least the fighting had stopped.

Bud felt a sudden wash of shame. It wasn't for beating on the rich boy so much as it was for the way he upset the two
women. He even upset Marie enough to risk hurting herself to get away from him. From them.
He stood then he dropped a hand for Jason to help him up. Could he really be all that bad if Darcy saw something in rich boy??
On second thought, Darcy used to love him and at the moment he felt like a total asshole. He looked toward Darcy then his eyes fell to the floor. After that
he moved toward Marie.
"Please, come inside. Maybe we could all talk. Guess I should tell you that my biggest fault is a temper."
Reaching out to her, he offered his hand. "Maybe we could start over."
