"Three tours of duty, Susan. You don't have to worry. I'm healthy." He almost started to fake cough for effect. That would have
Cynthea laughing like crazy, but he had a feeling that Susan and her son, Brian, had a disconnect from their ability to laugh in a lot of situations. Laughter
was life to Jack and had in certain cases helped survival. Surely Cynthea must be adopted or she was a product of her Da. He sure didn't see her
personality in her mother or her so far sullen brother. There was a physical resemblance though. He guessed he could rule out adoption.
"I was more of a paper pusher than anything. There to represent the interests of the military and the soldiers when they legally needed it." Jack
had a feeling it might be better not to mention his first tour of duty which included front line experience and a behind the lines experience that occasionally
came out in his nightmares though it was fairly rare. He'd been good since the night of the accident when he'd been sent to a different time and place
for a while courtesy of his head and other injuries. Jack gently wrapped his hand around Cynthea's to let her know he was right here by her side and how
much he loved her.
Jack was a soldier in all senses of the word. He was also a barrister in the military, but first and foremost he was a soldier. And he was from and currently
serving countries who were at war.
"Would either of you like some more iced tea? We could show you some sights and go out to lunch?" Jack reckoned maybe Susan and Brian needed to
spend time doing things with them to see how much he loved Cynthea and she him. The sort of things a family would do together.
